Arrecifes (Colombia)

Arrecifes Beach is a few kilometres from Santa Marta, in the department of Magdalena, to the very north of Columbia, by the Caribbean Sea. To get there you need to go to the  stunning Tayrona National Park, Columbia's second most popular natural reserve after the Rosario and San Bernardo National Park.

With its turquoise water, white sand and palm trees, Arrecifes is an idyllic beach. You can get there by heading along a little path from Cañaveral Beach. Along the walk you'll get an idea of the Tayrona National Park's residents. You'll hear howler monkey cries, as well as the chirps of rainbow-coloured parrots. One you've arrived at Arrecifes, the only thing left to do is stretch out on the beach and take dips in the sea. Listen to the waves gently wash up on the beach, as you lie back and recharge your batteries.

As its name suggests, ('arrecifes'means 'coral' in Spanish), the bay is home to coral reefs that are great for diving and snorkeling. If you want a change of scenery, you can always head to the Cabo San Juan Beach.
