The Pomerape volcano, exceeding 20,000 ft, stands relatively close to another volcano, Parinacota, in Bolivia's Sajama National Park. So what's particularly unusual about it? It straddles the border between Bolivia (in the Oruro region) and Chile (in the Arica and Parinacota regions). 
A four-hour drive from La Paz, and located in Bolivia's Cordillera Occidental mountains, the Pomerape volcano is the twin volcano to the 20,827 ft tall Parinacota, and sits on the Laguna Chungara lake. As is the case with its twin sister, it is possible to climb to the top of Pomerape, but do be aware that it is not the easiest of ascents. In fact you'll need to wear crampons as the volcano's peak is covered in ice. If, like me, you don't want to even attempt to climb the Pomerape volcano, there's always the option of walking or cycling in Sajama National Park instead.
