I was completely exhausted when I arrived at Rurrenabaque. I travelled for 22 hours sat on the ground, I was jolted about over 500 kilometres of rutted tracks, I spent 22 hours being suffocated by dust and to top it off I was smothered in sticky mud. I experienced everything in that bus and during the journey from La Paz: mechanical breakdowns, flat tyres, hours waiting behind stuck trucks, mosquitoes which ate me alive, the dangerous road scraping along endlessly steep ravines... The flight from la Paz takes only 40 minutes. Think carefully when preparing your <a href="/bolivia/">trip to Bolivia</a>. But Rurrenabaque is worth it, here it's like a different Bolivia. There is a humid and suffocating heat there. It's a long way from the icy cold of the nights in Salar de Uyuni. And I strongly advise you to come here. Not necessarily for the town itself but because this is the perfect place to go travelling into the pampa or the jungle. Do a thorough tour of the numerous agencies to know which is the best for what you want. If you have enough time, I advise you to mix 3 days of pampa with 3 days of jungle afterwards.
