During my <a href="/bolivia/"> trip to Bolivia </a>, on leaving La Paz for far away Amazonia, I made a first stop at the pretty town of Coroico. Let me tell you all about it. Nestled on a hill, Coroico is at the heart of the Yungas region. It is a Bolivian region that is a little apart. It is populated by Afro-Andeans since the time when Africans were sent here as slaves to work in the mines. Today in Coroico, we come across beautiful, old, black women wearing a bowler hat and dressed in the traditional Bolivian costume. The Yungas is also the cradle of Bolivian music. I am even positive that you all know the world wide hit that was created here. Yes, the Lambada comes from the Yungas! In the evening sit on a patch of pavement and enjoy a succulent dish of chicken and chips. Absolutely delicious.
