With Yumani,, in the south and <a href="/bolivia/holidays/places/2531-challa/">Challa</a>, in the east, Challapampa is one of 3 villages in the legendary Isla del Sol. Surrounded by the clear waters of Lake Titicaca, Challapampa is a peaceful village. The inhabitants of this lakeside community are descended from Aymara and Quechua Indians and they live on their ancestral activities such as hand-crafted goods, farming and fishing, as well as a more recent one: tourism.
It's from Challapampa, going along a cobbled path, that you can explore the legendary ruins of Chincana, a sort of semi-underground stone construction, as well as the sacred stone of Chicana, 100 metres from there. In the old days, these impressive remnants were the theatre for Incan ceremonies and perhaps even for sacrificial rituals! As proof, there's an ancient table placed in the heart of the stones, worn by erosion and time. 
To enter the territory of the Challapampacommunity, you are asked for a right of way from some Bolivians. This custom is very popular in Bolivia. Also, don't forget to ask for the locals' permission before photographing them.
