With its buildings and beach, the Gold Coast is like no other place in Australia!
My suggestion
If you don't like buildings, luxury shops and everything that comes with it, move on! But it's a mandatory stop for all surfers.

The Gold Coast is a 35 km strip of sand on the east coast of Australia. You drive down the Gold Coast Highway between Southport and the border of New South Wales. The tourist activity here has reached its peak.
My suggestion
Surf or laze around on the beaches of the Gold Coast. In Surfer Paradise, stroll through the market, do some shopping and go out and party in the evening. Take the children to the many theme parks near Southport.
Listed as a UNESCO world heritage site, the wild nature of Tasmania promises beautiful hikes with breathtaking scenery. From Freycinet National Park to Lake Saint Clair-Cradle Mountain, not to mention Liffey Falls, it is a feast for the eyes (if not for the feet).
