At the mouth of the River Clyde, Batemans Bay is the closest coastal town to the Australian capital, Canberra.
My suggestion:
A few kilometres away you will find even nicer beaches and more welcoming small towns.
Summary:
During my visit to Batemans Bay, this port town seemed to me more like a town to pass through than a destination where you must stay. Located between Sydney and Melbourne, it can at most be considered as a stop off point between the two biggest cities in Australia.
In fact Australia has enough coast to make it difficult for a seaside destination!
Batemans Bay, which has around 10,000 inhabitants, is not however completely devoid of charm, with a quite relaxed atmosphere and more affordable prices than the rest of the coast. It therefore attracts more and more young families coming to live there, who revitalise the town which was previously inhabited by fishermen and pensioners.

Located at the mouth of the River Clyde, to the south of Wollongong, Batesmans Bay and the surrounding region can claim to have the most spectacular and unspoiled coastline in New South Wales.
My suggestion:
I would only recommend a stay at Batesmans Bay if you want to make the most of its beautiful beaches or if you like water sports.
Summary:
From a boat or from the beach , Batemans Bay is perfect for scuba diving. The coastal reserve stretches over 85,000 hectares of estuaries, streams, rivers and lakes, with a wide variety of marine life and habitats. You can therefore see dolphins, seals, sharks and rays there.
Since the reserve has few restrictions, fishers of all levels can thoroughly enjoy it. Boats leave from Batemans Bay to go marlin fishing, which is only for the most experienced fishers.
Five kilometres south of Batemans Bay, the Eurobodalla Regional Botanic Gardens were a delight on my visit to this corner of Australia. They are home to a wide variety of fauna and flora. The area's original fauna therefore includes over 2000 species and the native fauna include kangaroos, wallabies, possums, bandicoots, echidnas, snakes, lizards, frogs and many species of birds. You will also find a picnic and barbecue area, an information centre and a cafe there. It is perfect for spending an afternoon in the countryside.
