During my trip to Australia, I chose Brisbane as my starting point. Although it's the capital of Queensland, the city has remained reasonably small, meaning that you can easily get around it on foot.
One of my first impressions of Australia was the impressive size of the green spaces right in the centre of town. I loved lazing around in the Botanic Gardens, looking up at the neighbouring skyscrapers. I recommend wandering around the streets at random, taking in the colonial architecture. Culturally, Brisbane is very rich, with lots of museums. A boat trip on the river Brisbane offers beautiful views over the city. As night falls, the buildings light up, giving the city a magical feel which will enchant photographers and lovers alike.
A bit in the style of Adelaide, the city of Brisbane offers a good compromise between urban city areas and green spaces. I'm thinking of the magnificent " Brisbane City Botanic Gardens in particular. It's one of this city's lungs, it would seem that the second one is the " Roma Street Parkland " but I didn't have chance to visit it.
The second reason why I found Brisbane to be a pleasant place, apart from the weather, 300 days of sun a year, is its impressive network of cycle tracks. However, sports lovers who choose to see Brisbane by bike, like me, should make sure they bring bottles of water, sun cream and a helmet!
After that day, you will have definitely earned your evening dip at Streets Beach. All the same, I want to make clear that you shouldn't expect anything special, it's an artificial beach. But for me, after a day of cycling, the smallest little drop of water was welcome, artificial or not.
Brisbane is strictly speaking not a very interesting city. The city centre is pleasant and pretty. There are several museums that I could also visit.
There isn't a beach in Brisbane, but an artificial beach has been created, a sort of improved swimming pool surrounded by sand and palm trees! Brisbane can actually allow you to have a break on a trip in this country where beaches occupy a very important position!
To go from one side to the other of this city, I didn't take the bus but a boat, much nicer! For nocturnal types, the Valley district is perfect! It's the cool part of Brisbane with its bars and nightclubs.
I don't advise spending more then 3 days in Brisbane during a trip to Australia. Once you've seen the city centre and the beach... you've seen it all!
