Denham (Australia)

It is pleasant to walk along the high street and laze on the beach in Denham. On the other hand, you must absolutely stock up on food in Denham, because you won't find anything else in the area. The nearest town is Kalbarri (over 4 hours away by car).

Like most of the cities in Australia, there is not much to see from an architectural point of view, except, perhaps, St Andrew's Church, which is built entirely from seashells. Located on the heights of the town, it will only take you 15 minutes on foot.

But of course, you go to the area for the natural environment, because Denham is the starting point for all the visits to the surrounding area of Shark Bay. You are 4 km from Francois Peron National Park, that I was unfortunately not able to visit, because it is only accessible by 4WD. You are about 20 minutes by car from Monkey Mia, where you can see the dolphins. For a voyage of discovery in Australia, nature lovers can also go to Hamelin Pool to see the stromatolites or lounge on a bed of seashells at Shell Beach. The park is full of amazing natural wonders. The waters are full of fish: ideal for fishing, diving, kayaking and other water activities.

N. B.: the travel guides also urge you to go and see the Ocean Park on the road to Denham: what you read is quite enticing, but I must say that I was rather disappointed, because I expected something bigger and more modern. There are only two large indoor basins with three or four small aquariums: the presentation is fairly rudimentary. Outside, a walkway takes you over a pool of lemon sharks. The shark feeding is not very impressive because they are so well fed that they just aren't hungry. Still, the guided tour is very instructive.
