A hideous seaside town in a lovely setting overflowing with western tourists in party mode - that's my opinion of Marmaris, should you want to go there.
Located opposite the Rhodes Island, Marmaris remains a picturesque port for arriving in Turkey.
My suggestion
Now a popular destination among tourists, visiting Marmaris out of season is much more peaceful.

Unless your aim is to spend a few days living a completely non-Turkish life, my advice is don't go to Marmaris.

Classed under World Heritage by Unesco for its numerous Ottoman houses, Safranbolu has conserved the charm of its old cities. Famous for its saffron, it is pleasant to wander its paved streets, to admire its aqueduct or to go and explore the caves of Bulak, nearby.
