Elephant Island is one of the most important islands in Thailand, and a good place to spend a few days visiting and lazing around.

My suggestion:
Be careful where you stay, lost of the places to stay on the beaches are noisy, you would be better off choosing places on the creeks or smaller sites.
Summary:

During my stay in Thailand, I visited Koh Chang on my way back from Cambodia. My bus left the frontier and stopped right in front of the quay where the boat was waiting.

Koh Chang is served by shared taxis which stop where you want. The route of the journey is generally fixed before starting. There are two famous beaches, White Sand Beach and Lonely Beach. I found a place to stay on the latter, in a little bungalow facing the sea. But when I explored other parts of the island I was sorry I hadn't gone further away!

I spent a day diving in the sea, especially on the HTMS, a sunken war ship in 20 meters of water. Sublime, and full of little fish!

There are lots of different activities on Koh Chang - there are waterfalls in the center of the island, hiking, the beach of course, diving, night walks, and even really touristy things which I didn't do, like a crocodile farm and elephant rides.

It's a lovely island where you can relax or just as easily find something to do, a bit like Thailand in miniature!
