Phang Nga is mainly famous for its archipelago of islands that can be visited in the space of a single day. It constitutes a very enjoyable trip, even if it is very touristy.
My suggestion:
Phang Nga really is very touristy. If you don't enjoy busy places, give it a miss!
Summary:
Whenever I encounter a noisy group of people with a dubious sense of humor, I always end up saying to myself, "Group visits? Never again!" This is what happened in Phang Nga, yet I would have no hesitation in repeating the experience! With no stress in terms of the way things were organized, I had an enjoyable time at what is one of Thailand's wonderful sites, and in the company of people who, once you give them the benefit of the doubt, can turn out to be amusing companions.
It is not without reason that Phang Nga receives lots of tourists. Admittedly, this excursion attracts significant numbers of people – us included – eager to see the famous "James Bond Island", and they crowd together to get a good view and spoil the photos you take as souvenirs. But don't let that put you off because, in the space of a single day, you can also experience the beauty of Phang Nga Bay, which will be enough to calm you down.

Phang Nga is an area with stunningly beautiful countryside. So no wonder films like James Bond have been made there!
My suggestion:
Take a boat trip to explore the beauty of the surroundings.
Summary:
From Phuket I went back to Phang Nga where, as soon as I arrived in the center, I started to look for a boat to take me around the bay. Luckily, a couple were looking to do the same and together we negotiated to have a guide and his long boat for the day.
So off we went to explore Phang Nga bay, well away from the big boats full of tourists come en masse to see the region. Our trip was intimate and quiet.
Thanks to the small size of the boat we were able to go see some caves along the way. Our guide stopped for lunch at a small fishing village on stilts, and one or two tourist shops along the way, but that's part of the game. The view of the limestone outcrops, which almost seem to be escaping from the water, is truly spectacular.
I loved this day and the extraordinary scenery, it was definitely one of my favorites during my stay in Thailand.
