Best things to see and do for one week in Spain

What to see in one week

With so much history throughout the country, a seven or eight day itinerary in Spain won’t struggle to fill the time with fascinating visits. Start in Barcelona to visit world-famous places such as the Sagrada Familia before enjoying tapas and some shopping on La Rambla. You can also take a tour of Barcelona which visits all the Gaudi buildings within the city and is a great way to see the city, whilst visiting the beautiful and interesting buildings designed by Gaudi himself. Finish the tour in Park Guell where you can relax in the park’s beautiful surroundings and appreciate a view over the city. Seville is another city that is not to be missed during your one week trip to Spain and you’ll be able to explore a city full of art and culture, with architecture and art inspired by Islamic influences. Seville is widely considered as Spain’s most beautiful city and it makes the perfect place to relax and soak up Spanish culture on your holiday.

What to do in one week

Your one week itinerary in Spain wouldn’t be complete without some activities to make you feel as though you’ve earned your relaxation. Andalusia is the perfect place to walk, hike and even horse ride on the famous Andalusian horses. See the landscape stretching out as far as the eye can see as you take some time to reconnect in this beautiful location. You can even stay in a vineyard or traditional hotel to enjoy the best of local life. For those wanting a real challenge, why not hike up Tiede; Spain’s highest peak and an active volcano? If it’s relaxation and a chance to let your hair down that you want from your one week Spain itinerary then a visit to the islands is a must. Visit Ibiza to experience this world famous party scene, or Mallorca to soak up the sun in this seaside paradise.

Best time to travel to Spain for a week

The most popular time to visit Spain is undoubtedly during the summer months, due to the country’s warm weather that can become extremely hot at times. Visiting during this peak season, however, can mean that prices are significantly higher, crowds are larger and availability in hotels is much harder to come by. Try visiting during the shoulder seasons during May and September, where you can benefit from the great weather and the summer season attractions, without any of the added stress. If you plan on visiting any of the cities, winter is also a great time to go, since Spain is a year-round destination and city sightseeing in the summer heat is much less pleasant than during the period from October to March. Whenever you decide to go, you’ll want to return to Spain again and again.

You can go to Spain at any time of the year, but depending on what you like, preference should be given to the various seasons: from June through September, it's usually very warm and dry, so it's perfect for those who love the sun and the beach; winter is often cool, but it's still pleasant, except in the North where it rains frequently and the temperatures are very low.
