Naganeupseong is a small fortified village, still inhabited by several hundred inhabitants who offer accommodation, food and traditional handicrafts.. The houses are traditional, with thatched roofs and dirt floors. The surrounding area and farm land have also been preserved, giving still more charm to the place. Unlike many other places, the town was not destroyed during the Japanese occupation and the homes have been preserved in good condition. A handful of the houses have even been placed on the UNESCO heritage list.
Strolling through the village, I had the impression of going back in time. Some shops rent traditional costumes for you to dress up in for your visit, which is very popular among Korean tourists, much less so for Westerners!
