What to pack for South Africa?

Obviously it depends on where you go, at what time of year and the activities you want to do once on holiday in South Africa.

Things you need to put in your suitcase for a trip to South Africa.

  • Take an adaptor - the plugs are different as is the voltage.
  • A good insect repellent - the mosquitoes are bloodthirsty. Essential if you go to the Kruger Park.
  • A frontal head torch, for navigating your way around campsites at night.
  • If you're going on safari don't forget your binoculars.
  • Good hiking boots but even if you're not planning on a walk, a decent pair of trainers is essential.
  • A waterproof jacket to protect you from summer downpours.
  • The temperature differences are wide so a mix of t-shirts/shorts along with long sleeved tops, trousers and pullovers.
  • Most hotels/guest houses/hostels have pools so don't forget swimwear, a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen. You'll also need these if you go whale watching in Hermanus or decide to do a bit of surfing.
