A stopover city, Musanze is on the road between Kigali and Gisenyi. With a large coach station, it's also the essential stopping-off place for visiting Volcanoes National Park and its inhabitants, the mountain gorillas.

My suggestion:
Make a stop in Musanze during your trip to Rwanda; you'll find everything you need for a visit to Volcanoes National Park.
Summary:

The city of Musanze (formerly Ruhengeri) doesn't hold any particular interest for tourists, but it's an important Rwandan city. You'll easily find high-quality accommodation there and something to eat, before continuing your trip towards Gisenyi or the Volcanoes National Park.

For me, Volcanoes National Park is a must-see place during a trip to Rwanda. I was able to see mountain gorillas there, a unique experience! It can be interesting to spend several days in this park. If you do so, in my opinion, it's best to stay at Musanze.

The city also has a museum and the research centre founded by Dian Fossey, the legendary primatologist who devoted her life to the study and protection of gorillas, notably in Volcanoes National Park.
