A stunning country clearly undergoing renewal and regeneration after the genocide. Our party all felt a greater focus could be given to the genocide memorials an we requested stops at various memorials every day. These locations were sympathetically done, and we must continue to remember these events.
I will recommend Rwanda to everybody, utterly captivating country with beautiful people and gorillas!
As a country, Rwanda has the most stunning landscapes, views and scenery I have ever experienced. Spending 7 hours in a vehicle driving sounded a little challenging at the start, but there was a different sight to watch all day Long and the vehicle was perfect for our group size.
The gorilla trek was outstanding and intensely memorable, our guide for that day was extremely good-the best we had all week. The hotel Chez Lando was superb, best breakfast all week and the final hotel in Akagera was also very good, great views and wonderfully placed. The safari was excellent and we hired a guide who was the best value money we spent all week. The vehicle was great, comfortable and great views.
At the Top View Hill Hotel in Nyungwe, two of our party lost money of about 200 USD each. We realised one lot had gone missing while we were there and the second lot later. Only one room had a safe in it as this was broken. We asked the staff to fix the safe, they were unable to do so. As a consequence, we are not surprised our money went missing. This is highly disappointing and we would recommend you use a different hotel. Also, while the hotel staff were friendly, it lacked atmosphere and they had a curious approach to food. We ordered dinner in advance, and then they decided to give us a ‘buffet’ which had more limited options we didn’t want. It was a little odd.
Finally, on the chimp trek, it was great to see the chimps, but we ended up in a group of ten people (contrary to their policy) which made the trip quite cumbersome. However, the chimps were great!
