Karongi (formerly named Kibuye) is in the centre of Lake Kivu's east coast. This is one of the essential places to go to while on a trip to Rwanda .

My suggestion:
certain hotels rent canoes so do not hesitate! The coast and its many islets are well worth it This is sure to be a magical moment of leisure.
Summary:

My short stay in Karongi was very restful. The surrounding landscape and the view on the lake are dazzling. I felt peacefulness and a very pleasant sea air here. From sunrise to sunset, the radiant sun made the colours sublime. Thunderstorms, frequent in these lake regions, also make an exceptional sight.

The accommodation on the outskirts of the town that is on the edge of the water is really nice. We opted for Karongi's most beautiful hotel and had no cause for regret. There is some choice what with other more affordable qnd quite comfortable accommodation.

This is where I was really able to enjoy the swimming and water sports . Excursions to Napoleon island (bat island) are also proposed, impressive!
