Situated on the Polish and Slovakian border, the Dunajec gorges offer amazing views of the Pieniny region.
A river on the border between Slovakia and Poland, the Dunajec winds its way through the Pieniny range, in a majestic landscape lined by mountains that are around a thousand metres high.
The highlight of this natural park is travelling along River Dunajec's gorges on wooden rafts steered by local Goral boatmen - a community that's been organising such tours since the 19th Century, at a time when wealthy, retired folk flocked to hotels in the region. Surprisingly, Dunajec's gorges are a popular attraction in Poland and hoards of visitors head there during summer months - be prepared for crowds on fine days!
Situated in the heart of one of Poland's rare mountain ranges, I can highly recommend a trip to these gorges to anyone visiting Poland.
