Puerto Princessa is a more or less necessary stop-over when visiting the popular island of Palawan. Its popularity is due to its numerous amenities and various, local tourist attractions.

My suggestion:
For travellers wishing to extend their visa, the immigration office is found on the main road, close to the airport. It took less than 20 minutes to sort mine out! However, leaving the town by ferry will test your patience to the limit!

I arrived at Puerto Princesa by bus, dropped a friend off at the airport and left the town by ferry! A well developed, well-organised place, I found the city was quite contrasting - traffic jams versus a high level of cleanliness, thanks to the town's policy on rubbish dumping. It's pleasant and well-placed for exploring other attractions on the island.

The capital of Palawan, it's location is perfect if you want to explore the islands beautiful sights and sounds. The list is long, but to narrow it down during a holiday in the Philippines, I recommend Honda Bay, the Sabang subterranean river or renting a motorbike and heading out to the Puerto countryside.

During May and June, experienced divers can take a cruise from this harbour town to the famous Tubbataha reef. An official UNESCO site, this reef provides the most mesmerising underwater experience in the country.
