Travelling in Peru with a local English-speaking guide

Your local English-speaking guide will be your reference point in a new culture in which you will be temporarily submerged. Aside from all the history, the guide will tell you, in your native language, all the little subtleties of the local culture: the historical, political, economic and sociological facts that combine to make it so interesting and complex.

The guide will be your interpreter and will act as an intermediary between you and your host for the entire trip, or at least for the time you arrange to use his or her services. It's very handy to be able to count on a bilingual professional who can easily bridge the gap between French and English. You also need to know that very few Peruvians speak English, especially if you stay in rural communities.

In addition to ensuring that your time on holiday is well organised, the whole experience will be more satisfying. Travelling in the company of a local English-speaking guide ensures that you'll miss out on as little as possible during your holiday in Peru, which unfortunately is often too short.

For those of you who don't enjoy holidays that are organised from A to Z in advance, be aware that the guides are flexible. They can accompany you just for some parts of the voyage, not necessarily for the whole time. I advise you to consider this option. So even if you don't intend to use the services of a guide for the whole of your trip, do consider using one for important destinations such as the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu. Having experienced this myself, I can tell you that the experience is completely different when you go with, or without, a guide. The amount of information that a guide can give you in a short time is really impressive!

Finally, a trip to Peru is often the voyage of a lifetime and this little extra detail can make all the difference to an unforgettable holiday, as well as taking your cultural knowledge up a notch or two!
