Jebel Akhdar ("Green Mountain") is part of the Al Hajar mountain range. It is characterized by terraced crops and vegetation in a rather hostile climate. This stopover will delight lovers of nature and hiking.

My suggestion:
There are two roads to get to Jebel Akhdar: one from the north and the other from the south. I would advise taking the road from the north, because the landscapes are spectacular, even though it is a much more difficult drive (a 4 x 4 is essential).
Summary:

Jebel Akhdar is not a specific place and this confused me a little at first. You have to keep this in mind so you won’t be disappointed. People can only view this mountain from a dirt road (only for experienced drivers if coming from Rustaq) while driving a 4 x 4. To be honest, it is hard to stop along the way, because you sometimes risk getting stuck. With that being said, the road goes through such amazing scenery that it would be a shame to miss.

To enjoy it a little more, I recommend spending the night in one of the mountain's villages (I personally stayed at Al Hamra) making it possible to soak up a little more of this unique environment (rocky mountains punctuated by lush green plantations). For those who love trekking, it’s also possible to hike around the mountain as part of a 10-day trek.
