A popular tourist destination, mainly known for beautiful beaches, Cathedral Cove and hot pools at Hot Water Beach. A relaxing place to stay during a vacation in New Zealand.
My suggestion:
Check out the sunset at à Opito Bay.
Summary:
Despite the weather not being great during my vacation at Coromandel, I fell in love with the peninsula, its deserted beaches and its hikes. If you want to head off the beaten track, I recommend the beach at Opito Bay, to the east of Coromandel; it's a dream. I spent the night there and watched a stunning sunset alone - the place was deserted. The road that leads there is winding and beautiful; parts of it reminded me of the French Pass.
I also really enjoyed the Kauaeranga Kauri Trail, a beautiful 5 to 7hr trek that takes you to the rugged Pinnacles. This was once a track used by Kauri Bushmen. Footsteps fossilized in the stone, traces of camps and ancient trails still remain!
I completely fell for Cathedral Cove, a little corner of paradise to the east of Coromandel. Hot Water Beach, however, was a bit of a disappointment. Tourist ridden and, having already suffered that at Taupo Spa, not what I was really after.

A peninsula located east of Auckland, Coromandel offers a variety of landscapes that will delight fans of photography.
My suggestion:
Get off the beaten path and move to the northern part of the peninsula, where the roads are just dirt roads.
Summary:
Coromandel est is a wonderful peninsula that attracts a lot of local and international tourists. Upon your arrival in New Zealand, you'll hear people talk about Cathedral Cove or maybe Hot Water Beach (natural hot water pools). Indeed, these two popular tourist spots are worth a visit. The first one for its beauty and to enjoy the beach, and the second to explore digging its hot water pool in the sand that's been newly discovered from the low tide.
However, Hot Water Beach was a little disappointing. Indeed, I like unusual places, off the beaten path. But arriving there, I ran into a horde of tourists, 15 of them in a tiny hole...
The rest of my stay in Coromandel was more peaceful, north of Coromandel town, in a small tranquil village with colonial-style houses. Recommended by locals, I went to New Chums Beach, which, after 30 minutes of walking, proved to be a little piece of paradise isolated from any civilization.
Finally, for those who love to fish, I suggest you find some rocks along the coast and take on the quest for your dinner! Snapper is especially delicious when it's fresh caught! In New Zealand there is no need to have a license to fish in the sea, so have fun!
