Mengwi is a village on Bali in Indonesia. It is famous for the temple of Taman Ayun.

My suggestion:
If you use a guide the visit will be much more interesting and they will be able to answer any questions you have.
Summary:

When people go to Mengwi, it's to see the Temple of Taman Ayun, a small temple that attracts tourists because it is easy for them to visit it. The temple, which dates from 1634, is part of the remains of the Mengwi kingdom.

Apart from visiting the temple and the monkey forest there isn't a lot else to do in Mengwi. The monkey forest is just like all the others, but they are always fun. Because it is famous for its temple the village has some tourist infrastructure.

Like all over Indonesia, the food is very good and will please the most exacting eaters. I really liked the authentic local food in Mengwi's night market.
