Gilimanuk is on the east side of Bali and mostly known because it is the departure port for Java.

My suggestion:
Even if the only reason you have gone to Gilimanuk is to get the ferry, give yourself a day to visit the area.
Summary:

If you are thinking about taking a trip to Indonesia, Bali is one of its main tourist attractions, and if you then decide to go on to Java you will almost certainly go via Gilimanuk (it's the cheapest way).

But contrary to what a lot of travellers think, Gilimanuk has some wonderful attractions: quiet white and black sand beaches, and superb sea beds where you can snorkel or dive. It's also close to two small islands. Pulau Kalong, or Bat Island, which has an incredible mangrove, and Pulau Borong, the bird island.

So I recommend you to enjoy your time at Gilimanuk because it is still relatively unknown to tourists and gives you a chance to connect with a more authentic Bali that hasn't suffered the ravages of time.
