My suggestion:
Avoid the week-end, do not hesitate to haggle the price in the small boutiques (where the price is not marked). Take advantage of the "cool" of morning to go jogging or surfing and have breakfast with your feet in the sand of Gado-Gado beach.
Summary:
I lived in Indonesia and more specifically in Seminyak for over 5 months; it is a mixture of Bali and the West. It is a city on a human scale where the bustle of the shops, the bars and restaurants can become suffocating.
However, the seaside is very pleasant, the beach warungs offer Indonesian specialties alongside western dishes. At sunset, you can sip a local arak madu seated under multi-coloured Balinese parasols.
The night market is worth the detour, there is a huge selection of bargains. A pity that cheap and showy are getting the upper hand more and more.

Once a town in its own right, nowadays Seminyak is a trendy suburb of Kuta.
My suggestion:
Allow plenty of time between the different tourist sites because there are some dreadful traffic jams.
Summary:
Like all the tourists who fly into Bali, there is a strong chance that you will go to Kuta, Legian or Seminyak. Kuta has a very bad reputation, but Seminyak is a good introduction to the gentleness of Bali and also to your trip to Indonesia. It's a Balinese tourist town that is quite peaceful and where it's nice walking along the streets or spending time on the beach, or in the fashionable cafes.
Even though it's not the sort of town I usually like it's very nice, especially in the cool of the early morning, when most of the tourists aren't yet up, and the locals are making offerings to the gods in the streets. The local market is original and typically Balinese, and there are several temples you can admire. I was a bit disappointed by the beach, which is not as idyllic as all that, although the beach bars are good at night.
