Shatili is one of the most beautiful destinations in Georgia. Personally, my first visit was absolutely breathtaking. This "aoul", village made up of dry stone tower-houses, takes centre stage in a high mountain valley, at more than 1,400 metres of altitude. I got the impression as I arrived, of going out of time... Its heritage, classed on the informative UNESCO list, goes from the middle ages to the 19th century.
The difficulty of access, the isolation, everything immediately plunged me into an atmosphere of the end of the world and a primitive archaism. Living in Georgia, I'd quickly learn that Shatili is a national myth. Proof of the soul Khevsureti, Shatili is mentioned in folklore and cinema... 
You should know that from Tbilissi, the route is long, tiresome, accessible by 4x4 at the end of a stony track.
