Tusheti is one of the most exciting destinations. This extremely mountainous and incredibly remote land is filled with picturesque villages with intriguing architecture, large wild areas perfect for trekking and fascinating cultural attributes.

My suggestion:
Take the jeep until Omalo, then start exploring on foot or horseback to physically experience the beauty of these valleys and these mountain pastures whose countryside will take your breath away.

Those who dream of crossing the Gobi desert or getting lost in the Cordillera Real will not regret a trip to Tusheti. Dreamily mountainous, high up, remote, with no electricity or running water outside Omalo, the region is a fountain of excitement.

With its steep and arid slopes, its livestock agriculture everywhere you go, the pagan culture of its proud herdsmen who have a centuries-long identity, it is a great place to rediscover the true value of things: life with nature, solidarity, hospitality, physical exertion, beauty in its natural state.

You will already need a whole day to reach Omalo beyond the mythical Abano Pass, and to then pass onto the northern side of the Greater Caucasus. Then, either on foot or on horseback, you will take a further day to reach the heart of the other valleys: Pirikiti, Gom├ętsari or Zovata. Finally, you will be able to walk among mountain pastures or reach the highest passes and peaks with an extra day... To put it plainly, Tusheti will bring you superbly to a concept of time where there are no modern inventions which have stigmatised it for decades.
