There's a path built around a good part of the lake, which allows you to walk peacefully, far from the traffic. Sheltered from the sun by the trees, you can admire the fishermen and birds, whilst eating Kolo grains bought from street peddlers.
A hill overlooks the town and the lake. The view is magnificent, notably at nightfall. During this little stroll, I had the opportunity to meet children who were walking their herds. To get there, don't hesitate to take a local tuk-tuk.
Before leaving Awassa, don't forget to stop and have a fresh fruit juice on a terrace, or eat fish from the lake. For the evening, there's a bar near the water which is decorated with Lion of Judah paintings and which offers very lively reggae evenings. The manager there is very helpful.
