Here's a place that's well off the beaten track! At an hour's bus ride from Popayán, the Cauca Department's capital, Silvia is a little town that sits in a green, mountainous valley at 2,600m high. 
There are two ways to get to Silvia and its market - on a local minibus or using the regular bus service. However you decide to travel, it's best to set off early (between 7am and 8am), so you can fully enjoy the atmosphere in a traditional Columbian market that's held every Tuesday. The market's not touristy, but rather a farmer's market selling fruit and veg, seasoning and local crafts. But a trip to Silvia is a great way to enjoy some local culture. You'll be able to pick up some souvenirs and don't be afraid to drive a hard bargain with the local Guambianos. 
Once the market closes, you can head off on a short hike towards Pueblito, a typical village found on slighter higher ground. Along the walk you'll may well spot trout in the river's crystal clear water. Which explains why trout is a local speciality. You can visit a trout farm, where you'll be given the chance to catch your next meal!
