Urtsadzor does not really have anything particularly unique or special to offer other than its traditional authenticity. This is a typical little Armenian town: houses with gardens lining its roads and surrounded by arid hills.
It does stand in a beautiful location however: a rural landscape of low mountain foothills. With the several family-run guesthouses and shops it contains, it also serves as a good base for ecotourism. As the starting point for treks into Khosrov National Park, Urtsadzor stands in a privileged location.
An enjoyable hike to do, in my opinion, is the walk up the Vedi valley towards Gegham. The river gorges are both beautiful and wild. There are various sites of historical and archaeological interest located all around the town, with castle ruins, a cemetery and khachkars (Armenian cross-stones) just some of the things waiting to bring out the budding archaeologist.
