Saghmosavank is located at the northern end of the Kasagh River gorges and is probably the most beautiful monastery in the whole region.

My suggestion:
There is a walking trail along the Kasagh River here, linking Saghmosavank to Hovhannavank. The return trip takes around three hours.
Summary:

Standing perched at the edge of a rocky promontory that overlooks the Kasagh River down below, Saghmosavank Monastery is one of the most picturesque and photogenic in Armenia. The wild nature all around it, the bare rock, and the dizzying height all combine to create an almost fairytale effect, and for a moment I'd felt as if I'd been transported back to medieval times, to the very beginnings of Christianisation.

The monastery itself, which dates from the 8th century, is quite wonderful, with its conical, stone-built domes standing out against the natural environment all around. And what makes it all the more wonderful is that you can combine a visit here with an incredible walk along the river down below and see some of the most beautiful scenery to be found anywhere in Armenia. I therefore strongly recommend a trip to Saghmosavank Monastery to anyone visiting this part of the country.
