Portillo Piuquenes is better known under the name of Paso El Portillo . It is a path that connects Argentina to Chile that is only accessible on foot.

My suggestion:
Be aware that you can only attempt Portillo Piuquenes between November and April.
Summary:

Portillo Piuquenes is a trekking trail in the department of Tunuyán, in the province ofMendoza. It's a historic path that connects Argentina (from Tunuyán, the capital of Uco valley) to Chile (San Gabriel) via a path that's about 12 kilometres long.

Why not do a physical activity that's also cultural? That's what we decided to do by following in the steps of General San Martin along the Portillo Piuquenes path. Because it was along this route that the famous Argentine general and his army crossed the Andes more than 200 years ago...

The adventure begins at Manzano Histórico, in Argentina. You should be aware that you need to be fit for this day long trip, because the area has some really cold temperatures. The paths are not well marked and it is essential to take a guide. And if there is heavy snowfall then Portillo Piuquenes is inaccessible.
