Refugio Scaravelli is a refuge on the trail to Portillo Piuquenes, in Tunuyán department, right in the heartof Mendoza province.

My suggestion:
Because of the region's climate, the passage up to Scaravelli Refuge is only accessible from November to April.
Summary:

Go and visit one of the legendary Andean paths that connect Argentina and Chile: Portillo Piuquenes, also known as Paso Portillo. In this wild area, surrounded by snowy topped mountains, you will find Regugio Scaravelli, a picturesque refuge nestling in the rock.

If you are fit you can explore the path used by General Martin and his army in 1817, by foot or on horseback. You leave from a small Argentine place called Manzano Histórico, which is about one hour from Mendoza. Allow 4 days and 3 nights on horseback. The programme consists of daily rides through nature, and beautiful nights under the stars, accompanied by the Andean wild life. What more could you ask for?
