Punta Bandera, a small town a few kilometres from El Calafate, is the departure point for visiting Patagonia's glaciers on Lake Argentino.

My suggestion:
Try not to do the trip in winter as some places are inaccessible then.
Summary:

Punta Bandera is a small Argentine town where most of the excursions on Lago Argentino leave from. Spegazzini, Upsala and, the star of the show, Perito Moreno, glaciers are some of the things that the boats visit.

I wanted to visit Patagonia's glaciers by boat which was the only reason I went to Punta Bandera's port. Punta Bandera is on the shores of Lago Argentino. It is smaller than its neighbour, El Calafate. I didn't have a chance to explore the town but the little I saw was enough for me to form an unfavourable opinion. Just remember that Punta Bandera is, above all, where you go to get to the glaciers.
