Nany Oya is on the railway line linking Colombo with the rest of the country.
My suggestion:
It is not really necessary to spend the night here, instead there is Nuwara Eliya only 10km away.
Summary:
Nanu Oya is a village in the foothills of the Nuwara Eliya district. It is possible to stay at a guesthouse in the village and visit the area with a tuk-tuk, but for me, that wouldn't be the best option.
Upon arriving at the station, I asked myself what would be best as I didn't know Nuwara at all. I thought that Nanu Oya was the name of the station but was still situated in the village of Nuwara Eliya but no, it was a different locality entirely.
This could be a place to stay on the way to 'World's End', a mountain well-known by lovers of trekking, situated in the Horton Plains national park around 30km away. There is still the possibility to visit the tea plantations and the charming village of Nuwara Eliya, where there are many excursions available if you want to explore the surrounding area.

Nanu Oya has everything on a postcard. It is the image I have of small villages in Sri Lanka. Magnificent landscapes with an impression of complete serenity.
My suggestion:
Take the time to walk round the surroundings of the village, amongst the tea plantations, to watch the harvesters at work.
Summary:
I really enjoyed spending time walking in Nanu Oya, if only to just gaze at the landscapes. Trading views, smiles, simple things. Generally, people only pass through Nanu Oya, spending there only the time it takes to catch a bus or taxi to Nuwara Eliya. Here, the inhabitants don't really expect tourists, quit gives the village some authenticity.
Nanu Oya is a destination off the beaten track, which itself has a number of advantages: the te plantations are nearby, Nuwara Eliya is only 20 minutes away and the Horton Plains national park is about 10km away.
It is from Nanu Oya that the train journey through the mountains is the most spectacular. I remember my face being glued to the window, marvelling at each landscape, trying desperately to take a few photos through the fog. For me, Nanu Oya was the beginning of a train journey that I will never forget.
