The Suwon Hwaseong Fortress was designated a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site in 1997. Built in the 18th century in less than 3 years, its architecture is unique, mixing brick and stone. 



. You can climb the rampart, which is almost 4 miles long. I found the first few steps rather exhausting. The walls are 13 to 19 feet high, and the vantage point overlooking the city is enchanting. All along the ramparts, there are a number of things to discover: main gates, garde posts, palace buildings...
In Hwaseong Haenggung, martial arts shows are presented twice a day all year round. The 24 types of martial arts practised by the Korean elite soldiers of old, are showcased. Every Saturday from March to November, a traditional arts show is presented and on Sundays, you can watch the Changing of the Guard ceremony.
