Located in the heart of central Africa, Rwanda is a fascinating little country that shares borders with Burundi to the south, the Democratic Republic of Congo to the west, Uganda to the north and Tanzania to the east. But is Rwanda a safe country to visit?  Yes and you can now say, without exaggeration, that it's one of the safest countries in Africa. The genocide and civil war that ravaged the country in 1994 are well and truly in the past. The Rwandan people, who are magnanimous and enthusiastic, emerged from these dark times with a need and a desire to open their doors. A warm welcome in a stunningly beautiful country now awaits. Whilst hiking fans will love its forests, lakes and hills, Rwanda is in fact best known as home to one of the last colonies of mountain gorillas.

It was a six day mini-tour of three National Parks in Uganda.  It met my need to sample more of the country before starting a one-month volunteer role in SW Uganda. I wanted to see a sampling of wildlife, landscapes and culture. I had no interest in luxury, I just wanted to feel a bit better informed about Uganda and to feel more experienced.

I had a fabulous trip to Rwanda. I had no idea what to expect and I must say that I was impressed by how well organised and clean the country is. The main roads are in perfect condition. People are extremely welcoming and friendly.
