I was interested in visiting this island after a friend recommended it. Lying not far from the beach at Oslob (a place famous for whale shark watching – an option I don't recommend), from a distance the island appeared to have incredible beaches with virtually crystal clear waters around them. There are two ways to visit Sumilon Island: pre-book a room or a package stay at the luxury resort that owns the island, or hire a boat locally so you can get to the one beach that's open to the general public and have a look around this little piece of paradise lying lost out in the middle of a turquoise sea.
Though the island's scenery is undoubtedly spectacular, this is certainly not the only place in the Philippines you can say that about in my opinion. Additionally, I found that the buildings and infrastructure were a blot on the landscape to an extent, though I didn't actually see them from the inside.
In conclusion, this is an exclusive place for exclusive tourists.
