In addition to its impressive scenery and landscapes, Ilocos Norte offers the promise of exquisite, unforgettable moments to those who venture out to the province. Its beaches, dunes, caves, and its historic heritage – with its churches constructed during the time of the Spanish occupation. I found all this impressive. But what I really fell in love with, the real treasure Ilocos Norte has to offer, was its absolutely lovely inhabitants, who are always happy and willing to spend time with visitors and share their experiences with them. What delighted and intrigued me most is that, as a person of Hispanic origin, I was able to recognise and understand a few Spanish words amongst the torrent of sounds that make up the Tagalog language.
If I had to criticise anything about my trip to Ilocos Norte, it would be the local food. It didn't really offer very good value for money, and if you want good quality food, you have to be prepared to spend more than in other places in Asia, even if prices are still lower than they are in Europe.
