If we have loved the Island of Gods, the pearl of Indonesia, which has had such great tourist success for many years now, we can't deny that it is suffering for its fame. The environment is deteriorating year by year, mainly due to the plague of plastic which is everywhere and which the government does nothing about. Rubbish is not treated and the plastic remains.

Catch nature unawares as she wakes up...or at least that's what it feels like when you are on the wonderful 2,329 metre high Mount Bromo, on the east of the island of Java. An absolutely spectacular and unforgettable moment.  If you don't appreciate nature then don't bother!

A little island off Bali that is unknown to most tourists (and all the better for it!) If you want something off the beaten path, where you can meet the local population but also go diving, then this is for you.

Rumour has it that Nusa Penida is like Bali was fifty years ago. Peaceful and authentic, this little island off the south east of Bali is not nearly as developed as its big sister.  Most of the island is wild. There are a few fishing villages and small towns scattered about the island, surrounded by lots of vegetation, not to mention the different caves, springs, waterfalls, beaches and view points.  I recommend that you rent a scooter (check it first) and be vigilant on the road (the roads are in a bad way, with lots of potholes, etc.). That way you will be free to enjoy the whole of the island, taking a few trips, going through the small villages, visiting the Hindu temples or just relaxing on the beautiful wild beaches or by the natural springs. If you like diving there are some good quality sites, (Cristal Rock, Manta Point), around the island, where you can see enormous manta rays and even, if you are very lucky, Ocean Sunfish. Finally, if you would like to get closer to the local population, there is a volunteer centre (as you leave Ped) where you can help children learn English, help in the fields and other things. I didn't have a chance to help out but I heard a lot of good things about it. In brief, it's the ideal escape if you are looking for an authentic stay in Indonesia, on a wild island with lots of natural riches and the chance to meet the local population.
