If we have loved the Island of Gods, the pearl of Indonesia, which has had such great tourist success for many years now, we can't deny that it is suffering for its fame. The environment is deteriorating year by year, mainly due to the plague of plastic which is everywhere and which the government does nothing about. Rubbish is not treated and the plastic remains.

Catch nature unawares as she wakes up...or at least that's what it feels like when you are on the wonderful 2,329 metre high Mount Bromo, on the east of the island of Java. An absolutely spectacular and unforgettable moment.  If you don't appreciate nature then don't bother!

Lombok is an island located to the east of Bali, that you can get to either by boat from Padang Bai for example, or directly by plane thanks to the airport at Mataram, the island's main city. I spent two days in Mataram, which has nothing exceptional about it. I do not recommend that you linger here, this city is of little interest and in actual fact I only went there to renew my Indonesian visa. Lombok is less of a tourist attraction than its neighbour Bali , and also offers sublime landscapes, beaches worthy of a postcard and a seabed that will enchant diving enthusiasts. I strongly advise you to go to the Gili islands, where you can at once relax, party, explore the seabed, or even swim next to turtles!

Much less tourist-oriented than its so well-known neighbour Bali, Lombok is nevertheless a fascinating island not to be missed under any pretext while on <a href="/indonesia/"> a trip to Indonesia </a>. What I liked the most during my stays on this charming island, was the little archipelago of the Gili islands west of Lombok : Gili Meno, Gili Air and Gili Trawagan with their turquoise waters, without electricity or cars and with such a distinctive atmosphere. The most surprising of these islands to me being Gili Meno, where I suggest you spend at least one week. Today, Lombok claims to be the Bali of twenty years ago, Bali before the arrival of charter tourists. To me, it bears no resemblance to its neighbour, if only because of its Muslim religion and culture, as well as its very different landscape.
