I only saw Jorhat's coach station, but its reputation preceded my arrival. During a <a href="/india/">trip to India</a>, stopping off in Jorhat is only justified if you're changing to go towards another place. In my case, it was a journey to Majuli.
Note that the journey to get to Majuli is relatively tedious. Leave a lot of time for it. First you have to take a rickshaw from Jorhat coach station to Nimatighat, the ferry's departure point. They come regularly and you can negotiate the price. Then add about two hours on boat to reach the island and then another bus journey on Majuli to reach a village where you can stay. The same for the return journey.
For those who do want to stay over in Jorhat, you can do a tour around the tea plantations.
