At 38 km from Agra, Fatehpur Sikri dates back to the16th Century. It's home to a palace and mosque that you must see.
My suggestion
Village kids sell tickets at the palace entrance and will tell you it's for a school project. They then sell them on to the tourist office to be recyled. It's a way for locals to make some money and helps the environment at the same time

Former capital of the Mogul Empire, located around 40 kilometers from Agra.
My suggestion
Stay in Fatehpur Sikri : it's less touristy and more authentic and traditional than Agra.
