A little town in Uttaranchal that attracts few tourists and is nestled on the foothills of the Himalayas.

My suggestion:
Explore the surrounding forests and rivers by bike.
Summary:

Almora ; we stopped for one night, followed by a second, then a third...and ended up staying a whole week! Situated on the higher foothills of the Himalayas, this town is off the tourist trail and is a lovely place to be.

Its forests are stunning and you'll stumble upon little rivers in which you can swim during the summer months. I did a tour of the region by scooter, which is an ideal way to get around. You can stop when you like and you get the chance to meet local communities. There are also a lot of great hiking trails in the area.

The icing on the cake was that I found Almora to be a particularly clean town, which is always a nice surprise (and rare find) when traveling around India.
