In the local dialect, "Apani Dhani" means "Our Hamlet", an affectionate name given to the place by Ramesh C. Jangid, founder of the ecolodge and a pioneer of a form of militant tourism in India, especially in Rajasthan and his own native region of Nawalgarh.

Unlike Itanagar, the capital, Pasighat resembles Assam more than Arunachal Pradesh Here you'll find the countryside of Jorhat and Dibrugarh, both situated on the side of the river.
Don't go as far as Pasighat just to see the town. To make it worthwhile, combine it with a tour of the mysterious Tuting Valley or the Namdapha National Park. Another option is to head towards Along and the Mechuka Valley, on the border with Tibet. Whatever choice you make, you'll find yourself well off the beaten track around Pasighat!
As with all parts of Arunachanl Pradesh, the locals are welcoming and friendly.
