In the local dialect, "Apani Dhani" means "Our Hamlet", an affectionate name given to the place by Ramesh C. Jangid, founder of the ecolodge and a pioneer of a form of militant tourism in India, especially in Rajasthan and his own native region of Nawalgarh.

When I was doing my round-the-world trip, which included <a href="/india/">India</a> of course, I decided to stop at Aurangabad because of its proximity to Ellora and Ajanta. Not only does it serve as an ideal base, with the two tourist sites mentioned close by, but it is also easy to find accommodation there. 
Aurangabad is not an unpleasant place, and I managed to find things to do there in between the excursions to the caves of Ellora and Ajant. Where interesting things to see are concerned, I recommend a visit to the Bibi-ka-Maqbara. It is nicknamed the mini-Taj due to the fact that it is a copy (albeit on a smaller scale, and more modest) of the famous mausoleum in Agra. For those who find their enthusiasm is still not satisfied after seeing the caves of Ellora and Ajanta, the ones at Aurangabad are also very nice.
To summarise, Aurangabad, a road transport hub and stopover city, is actually quite nice when all is said and done.
