Luxor was the capital of Ancient Egypt and called Thebes.

My suggestion:
The temples of Luxor and Amun really must be seen during a trip to Egypt.
Summary:

I found the site of Luxor very impressive with its two temples and imagining a little the alley edged with Sphinxes which linked them. Seeing the alignment of the Sphinx in front of Karnak Temple is magnificent. I visited in the evening, which gives a special atmosphere.

Opposite, that's to say two kilometres away, lies the Temple of Amun (Luxor Temple). I must confess that I didn't do it on foot! First, you see the obelisk (which reminds us of another!) and two statues of Ramses II. The Colonnade of Amenhotep III, on the inside, is incredible.

Luxor is the departure point for the Valley of the Kings. It can also be explored in a hot-air balloon. It's what dreams are made of, but I wasn't so reassured. I was happy to go there by coach.
