I have a lasting memory of my stay in Yeghegis. Firstly for its majestic surroundings, on the side of a hill dominated by spellbinding rocky mountains. For those who love trekking and the mountains, the town is a small paradise.
Bestowed with some hotels and houses surrounded by lush gardens planted with walnut trees, Yeghegis is a very pleasant place to stay. The town is very authentic, almost untouched by modernity and hospitable. Not content with being close to some of the major sites of the <a href="/armenia/">Vayots Dzor Province</a>, Yeghegis has several of its own fascinating historical monuments.
In the first place, on the other side of the river, the Jewish cemetery of Yeghegis is somewhat surprising. More than 800 years old, it is one of the oldest in the world. The tombstones, engraved with Hebrew, have been crafted in a very Armenian style, akin to the Christian and Muslim tombs from the same period. There are also three ancient churches in Yeghegis, of which the most surprising is Zorats Church, built on a small promontory, with very narrow and vertical dimensions and unique architecture. I urge you to visit Yeghegis!
