40km to the north of Colombo, Negombo is a very pretty fishing village which stretches the length of a beautiful beach in the Indian ocean.
My suggestion
Situated only 7km from the international airport, it is much more pleasant than staying in Colombo.

My suggestion
Negombo is a good place to go to rest and recuperate from travelling before then continuing on with the rest of your tour of Sri-Lanka. Avoid the sea front and instead opt for accommodation away from the beach, which will both prove less expensive and give you more peace and quiet.
